A study on preparation of cobalt nanoparticles by electron beam irradiation method

In this paper the electron beam was used to prepare cobalt nanoparticles at room temperature and ambient pressure, without catalysts. The structure was analyzed by X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and differential scanning calorimeter (DSC). The laser scattering particle size distribution analysis (LSPSDA) was used to determine particle size distribution. The magnetic property was analyzed by vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM). Results show obtained cobalt particles has an average size at 32 nm and has a narrow size distribution, the nanoparticles show dramatic decrease in melt point. Finally the mechanism of the formation of cobalt nanoparticles was discussed.
