An approach to synthesis isolated carbon nanotubes with bamboo-like structures
By pyrolysing homogeneously solution of ferrocene/toluene, isolated multi-walled carbon nanotubes were grown at 850℃ in a simple apparatus without involving inert carrier gas bubbling or sprayed or injected feed. Scanning electron microscope characterized results show that the as-received CNTs have less twisting and more isolating. Transmission electron microscope characterized results show that the as-prepared multi-walled carbon nanotubes have high purity and with bamboo-like structures a hollow inside and compartment layers with a curvature directed toward the tip at a longer distance. Raman spectrometer analysis shows that the ordering of multi-walled carbon nanotubes is high and the amount of amorphous carbon in multi-walled carbon nanotubes is small. The growth mechanism of the CNTs is also discussed in detail.
