The effect of ball milling parameter on the particle size distribution of YBCO powder
The effect of ball size, ball-to-powder-weight ratios and milling time on the size distribution of YBa2Cu3O7 (YBCO) powder was investigated. The powders were milled with balls of different size (Φ=6mm, 10mm and 15mm in this study) and different ball-to-powder-weight-ratios(0.5:1, 1:1, 2:1, 3:1), for different time. The results showed that the average size of particles was decreased as milling time increased generally. But the average size is different when milled with balls of different size during the same intervals. If the ball to powder weight ratios and the revolution speed of milling machine are fixed, the finer powder can be obtained with bigger balls and relatively longer milling time. Contrarily, using small balls we can quickly make the powders fine but the final particle size is relatively larger.
