Photodegration of Hexachlorobenzene Catalyzed by TiO2

Hexachlorobenzene(HCB), one of the persistent organic pollutants (POPs), is a refractory semivolation organic compound and non-biodegradable. Treatment of HCB contaminated wastewater by traditional method is essentially impossible. In the study, the photocatalytic oxidation of HCB preadsorbed on TiO2 was examined in aqueous suspension under UV light irradiation. Some factors affecting the photodegradation rate of HCB were also studied. The results indicated the hexachlorobenzene of preadsorbed on TiO2 underwent a fast photocatalysis. In the process, the pH value of the dispersion had little effect on the photooxidation rate of HCB catalyzed by TiO2, while the surface coverage, amount of HCB/TiO2, addition of Fe3+ and H2O2 affected it greatly.
