Preparation and Characterization of TiO2-XNX photocatalyst films by annealing at nitrogen atmosphere

The anodic oxidation on titanium was used to make titanium dioxide film with anatase and nano-crystalline structure and multi-porous morphology in an acidic electrolyte composed of sulfuric acid solution, and oxalic acid subsequent to pre-nitridation. In order to obtain a simply prepared titanium dioxide electrode with good photocatalytic activities and photoresponse under visible light region, the TiO2 films were annealed at temperature 700℃ in pure nitrogen atmosphere after anodic oxidized. The pre-nitridation treatment was carried out by pre-annealing metallic titanium under a nitrogen atmosphere at the same temperature. The two methods of preparing TiO2-xNx films were characterized films structures, surfaces and electronic states of N element by the TEM, SEM, XPS results. The photoresponse of doped electrodes were showed by ultraviolet-visible reflection spectra and the photodegradation of acid red G balanced the photocatalytic activities under ultraviolet and visible lights, respectively. As a result, the N doped TiO2 films, being annealed at in N2 atmosphere, can possess rather larger effect of photocatalysis under visible illumination. Both samples have ability of photocatalysis under UV irradiation.
