Preparations and Photocatalytic Properties of Nitrogen-doped TiO2 Thin Film by sol-gel method

Nitrogen-doped TiO2 thin films were prepared on nickel mesh by a dip-coating method with tetrabutyltitanate as a precursor and urea as nitrogen source. X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis showed the light yellowish N-TiO2 by thermal treatment between 300C and 500C for 2h were all formed with a regular anatase crystal structure. The surface and morphology properties of N-TiO2 (5.8-nm-sized nanoparticle) at 350C calcinations were examined by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Two peaks at 399.2 and 401.6 eV were observed from N1s core levels, which may form the Ti-O-N bonds in lattice of anatase。The activity of thin films was characterized by photocatalytic degradation of the cationic dye aqueous of Rhodamine B (RhB) under ultraviolet and visible light irradiation, and the results showed that N-doped TiO2 thin film at 350C calcinations was observed to be greater effective than pure TiO2 thin film under not only visible light irradiation but also in UV light According to optical spectrum of N々TiO2 thin film at 350C calcinations was evaluated by ultraviolet-visible diffuse reectance spectroscopy (UV々vis々DRS), the absorption edge of synthesized N々TiO2 thin film reached at 530nm by extending the activating spectrum to the visible range.
