Investigation of Crystal Structure and Magnetic Properties for Co-doped ZnO bulks

The sintering temperature and Co concentration have great effect on the crystal structure and magnetic properties at room temperature for the Zn1-xCoxO (x=0.05-0.25) bulks prepared by solid-state reaction method. No secondary phase is detected for the bulks sintered from 800 to 1100 ℃ when x≤0.1. But CoO phase is present when x>0.1 for the bulks sintered at 800 ℃, however the pure single phase can also be observed when sintering temperature increases to 900℃. In order to obtain high saturation magnetization Ms, the optimum sintering temperature must be adjusted with Co concentration. At the optimum sintering temperature, the Ms increases from 0.79 to 1.06 μB/Co when x increases from 0.05 to 0.1, but it decreases to 0.59 and 0.41 μB/Co with x further increasing to 0.2 and 0.25.
