Review of photonic band gap theory and dispersion properties with its new progress in design
Photonic crystal is a new type of artificial material which has a photonic band gap, and makes the control of light become possible. Because of the photonic band gap, it has extensive applications in many optical fields, like optical fiber, photonic crystal laser, omnidirectional reflector, super prism, micro waveguide, etc. In this paper, we primarily introduce the principle and optical properties of photonic crystal. The difficulty in structure design and new methods to broader the band gap are also reviewed in the article.
