Emulsion synthesis of Luminescent Gd2O3:Eu3+ Nanomaterials

Different morphological Gd2O3:Eu3+ luminescent nanomaterials were synthesized by emulsion method, and the properties were characterized. XRD patterns showed that the samples are all cubic phase Gd2O3 with well crystallinity. TG-DTA curves showed that the samples keep constant weight after 600℃ annealing. TEM images indicated that the morphology and size of the samples are different with different precipitate,the sample prepared with NaOH as precipitate is in ellipsoidal shape and the size is almost uniform with the diameter of 40-60 nm. The morphology of sample prepared with (NH2)2CO as precipitate is spherical and the size is about 50-70 nm. And the sample prepared with NH4OH as precipitate is in rod-like shape and the diameter of particle is about 50 nm and the length is about 150 nm. ED photos showed that the samples are all polycrystal. PL spectra showed that the samples have better Eu3+ characteristic red emission, and the samples with different morphology have different luminescence intensities, the crystallinity and the morphology are the key factors for affecting the luminescence intensity. The sphere is the most suitable morphology for luminescence materials. And there is efficient energy transition from Gd3+ to Eu3+.
