Research on Viscous Dissipation in Filling Flow of Micro Injection Molding
The effects of viscous dissipation were researched by theoretical analysis and numerical simulation method, when polymer melts flow in three channels with different characteristic dimension. The results of numerical simulation show that the effect of viscous dissipation is weak, and the melt temperature changes when the characteristic dimension is of 1mm, the effect of viscous dissipation is evident, and the temperature rise of melt is up to 7℃ when the characteristic dimension is 200μm, and the surface/volume ratio rapidly increases. The results of this study show that during the process of micro injection molding the effects of viscous dissipation cannot be neglected with the decrease of the characteristic dimensions of channels.
