Controlled Synthesis and properties of carboxymethyl chitosan-bound magnetic nanoparticles

Monodisperse Fe3O4 magnetic particles adsorpted with carboxymethyl chitosan was prepared by means of one-step co-precipitation method. The absorption properties of samples were characterized by XRD, FTIR, TG, SEM, and vibration magnetometer. The carboxymethyl chitosan-bound magnetic particles are stable and its particles highest saturate magnetism strength σs can be 39.9emμ/g. The diameter of modified nano-particles was about 24.5nm, and the weight percentage of carboxymethyl chitosan to Fe3O4 nanoparticles was estimated to be about 9 wt. %. The results presented in this report show that magnetic particles are suitable for future nano-magnetic carrier of medicine and demonstrated that one-step co-precipitation process can be a better method for the kind of magnetic particles.
