Fabrication of fine microcapsule particles by SCF-RESS with a new structure nozzle

Microencapsulating red phosphorus particles were prepared by rapid expansion of supercritical fluids (RESS), in which a new kind of nozzle was used and supercritical CO2 was used as solvent. Influences of the nozzle temperature, temperature and pressure of extraction column , and mass flow of core particles on the encapsulating results were investigated. Characterizations of microencapsulated particles were determined by moisture absorption ratio, scanning electron microscope (SEM) and transmission electron microscope (TEM). Results show that encapsulating results depended on the different experimental conditions. And microcapsule particles with the coating thickness of nanometre-size or micron-size can be obtained for temperature of the nozzle and the column of 120℃, mass flow of core particles of 1.5g/min, and pressure of extraction column being more than 16MPa. The results are very valuable for finding a new way that microencapsulating particles can be prepared by SCF-RESS.
