Preparation of Polymeric Schiff Base (PSB) Nanorods via Interfacial Polymerization
Nanorods of polymeric Schiff base (PSB) have been successfully synthesized by interfacial polymerization (IP) and the effects of catalysts: ammonia and sodium carbonate and sodium hydroxide, and the monomer concentration and the reaction time on the morphology of PSB are investigated with the aid of TEM. And the sample is characterized by FT-IR, UV-Vis, XRD, thermal analysis and electrical conductivity measurement techniques. The results show that different morphologies of PSB nanostructural materials can be obtained through using some proper catalyst and adjusting the monomer concentration and controlling the reaction time. NH4 + is necessary for obtaining PSB nanorods and the uniform nanorod of PSB is obtained when the monomer concentration is in the range of 0.01 ~ 0.05 mol/L and the reaction time is from 8 to 16 h. It is also found that the polymer show high thermal stability and that the iodine-doped polymer is a semiconductor material.
