Nanomanipulation on Structured Surface Using Atomic Force Microscope

A multimode AFM was used to image and manipulate individual Bamboo-Shaped Multiwalled carbon nanotubes (BS-MWCNTs) on a structured Si substrate. Tubes with different diameters were transferred to bridge trenches and taken bending tests. The mechanical model of movement on flat surface was developed to fit the trench substrate. The Youngs modulus of BS-MWCNTs with large diameter was proved to be low experimentally. A fracture phenomenon was observed during repetitious bending tests on a tube of 38nm diameter.
