XRD and XAS studies of Pt nanoparticles

We use ethanol-water reduction method to prepare the PVP-protected Pt nanoparticles. XRD shows that Pt nanoparticles have the same XRD patterns as bulk Pt except the broaden of XRD peaks. The local structure around Pt was investigated by using X-ray absorption spectra and found the coordination numbers and Pt-Pt distances of these nanoparticles are decreased. At the same time, We found that the strength of the Pt-L3 edge white line increase, the XANES calculation simulates the surface effect of nanoparticles can not reproduce the experimental spectrum, so this change is attributed to the rearrange of Pt nanoparticles.
