Carbon Nanotubes Manipulation on Micro-trenches
The behavior of carbon nanotubes pushed by AFM tip on flat surface and micro-trench substrate is modelled in this paper. For the low aspect ratio(<25) nanotubes, they are believed to behave like rigid rods. We analyse the form of self-balanced equations and their solutions in the paper. These equations are used to estimate the movement of nanotubes both on flat surface and trench. For the high aspect ratio(>30) nanotubes, the deflection equations are introduced to describe their deformation under pushing. Based on the model, the CNTs laid on flat area are successfully translated to bridge trenches, and therefor possible to take classical bending tests. The experiment shows that our model works well. With manipulations on the micro-trench substrate, we get some of the tubes Youngs modulus.
