Study on Application of Centrifugation in Dispersion of Single-walled Carbon Nanotubes

The density and volume between single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) and carbon nanotube bundles (CNBs) are different, so SWNTs and CNBs in solution could deposit at different velocity and could be separated when centrifugal force was exerted. This paper presented the basic theory of centrifugation of micro particles and simulated the sediment of SWNTs and CNBs in the process of centrifugation. Based on the theory and simulation analysis, the paper developed a new method of dispersion-centrifugation. Raman spectrum, SEM and AFM analysis has demonstrated the method was effective to disperse SWNTs. The paper developed a new method to prepare the dispersed-well solution of SWNTs and also provided a feasible technique to fabricate SWNT-based nano- structures and devices.
