High-performance micro-electroforming based on the use of Nano-La3O2

The effects of the rare earth nano-La2O3 added to the basic sulfamate solution on microstructure of micro-electroforming nickel layers and its property were studied. The cathodic polarization curves of nano-La2O3 on the surface of cathodic electrode were determined, and the surface microstructure evolution of micro-electroforming layers was examined and analyzed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). It has been found that the cathodic polarization of the electrodepositing process was increased due to occurring of nano-La2O3 special adsorption on electrode surface, which could result in crystal refining and lighting of electroforming layer. Moreover, its crystal orientation had strong (220) texture and the micro-hardness could be improved substantially with the addition of nano-La2O3 . The mechanical properties of micro-electroforming layers could be greatly improved.
