Preparation ,Characterization and Application of Nanometer TiO2-Diatomite Composite Materials

Using simple inorganic salt TiCl4 and diatomite as raw materials, a series of nano- TiO2-diatomite was prepared by two-step hydrolyzing method. The activity results was corellated with structure, morphology and surface examinations of the catalysts done with XRD, TEM, SEM, IR and DSC methods. TEM and SEM results showed that the diatomite has a large surface area due to plenty of holes in the matrix. XRD patterns proved that TiO2 was a composite-crystal structure with anatase and rutile phase and the average particle size is 12 nm according to the result Scherrer formula. The IR results showed that Ti-O-Si was obtained, it was not a simple mixed material. The photo-catalytic experiment of Naphthalene scarlet 3R results show that the highest photo-catalytic efficiency could be obtained when the ratio was 4:10(quality) at the ultravoilet lamp of 185 nm. The photo-catalytic ability of the series of products were compared and the catalyzing mechanism was simply discussed also.
