Synthesis of Oleylamine Modified LaF3:Er,Yb Nanocrystals via Thermal Decomposition of Lanthanide Trifluoroacetate Precursors
Oleylamine modified LaF3:5%Er,20%Yb nanocrystals (NCs) have been prepared via thermal decomposition of lanthanide trifluoroacetate in oleylamine and 1-octadecene mixed high boiling-point solvents, which have excellent dispersibility in non-polar organic solvents such as toluene、cyclehexane and chloroform. The resulting NCs show strong emission around the 1550 nm telecommunication window when excited at 974 nm at room temperature, the average photoluminescence lifetime was measured to be 92.4μs using a double exponential decay functions fit, hence photoluminescence quantum yield is estimated about 1% which is two orders of magnitude larger than common erbium organic cage complexes. NCs synthesized by this method eliminate O-H effect, and can be incorporated with some low-loss polymer(PFCB、MAPTMS、CYTOPTM) produces a promising candicate for waveguide amplifiers operating at 1550nm.
