Study on Surface Free Energy and Dispersion of the Particles of Nonosized Calcium Carbonate Modified with WTP-08
The surface free energy and dispersion behavior of the particles of nanosized calcium carbonate modified using alkyl amine dimethyl phosphonic acid (WTP-08) as a modification agent by mechano-activated method were investigated. The surface free energy between modified and not modified nanosized calcium carbonate, and their interface free energy in different media were calculated with the measured interface contact angles between the calcium carbonate samples and the liquid media such as water, glycerin and n-hexane as the bases. The thermodynamic tendency of the aggregation and dispersion of calcium carbonates particles is analyzed. The results indicate that compared with not modified nanosized calcium carbonate, the surface free energy of modified calcium carbonate and its interface free energy in air and the non-polar media lower remarkably, in water increases obviously. The modification with WTP-08 leads to dispersion behavior of nanosized calcium carbonates particles in air and the non-polar medium enhance, in water reduce.
