Effects of grain size on tensile properties of metal foil

In order to investigate the effects of grain size on tensile properties of metal foil, uniaxial tensile tests of 40μm thick brass foil specimens with different grain sizes are performed at room temperature. The results show that with the increasing grain size, the yield strength and tensile strength of the specimen decreases. Elongation is related to quantity of grain in thickness direction and yield ratio. Fracture mechanism of the specimen with a couple of grain is characterized as a slip separating fracture and microviod coalescence fracture took place while the number of grain is less than two.
