Investigation of etching poloystyrene colloidal crystals

Polystyrene colloidal crystals were fabricated by a vertical deposition method .They were etched by a kind of solution to fabricated the non-close-packed face-centered-cubic(fcc) structure colloidal crystals .The solution was made up of toluene and ethanol . The surface structure of colloidal crystals was shown by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The results of experimentation indicated that the spheres of Polystyrene colloidal crystals were connected by cylindrical tubes.L= 20.7nm , r=106.3nm,L and r were the length and the diameter of cylinder. The colloidal crystals provide a new kind of method for the creation of colloidal photonic crystals with a full photonic band gap through template technique.
