Research on Calculation Method of Wind-induced Dynamic Load of UHV Transmission Steel Tower

Ultra High Voltage (UHV) transmission steel tower is high. Its flexibility is increased, and also vibration induced by the pulsating wind. The dynamic load should be concluded in the tower’s designing load. Then a factor called wind-induced dynamic load factor is introduced to UHV transmission steel tower. But the factor getting from the Load Code presently used is rough and not satisfied the demand of reliability and economics of UHV tower. In this paper, wind-induced vibration response and dynamic load of UHV tower are analyzed with the random vibration theory. A formula of calculating the dynamic factor of UHV tower is derived from the dynamic and static wind load. The factor obtained from this method is a single value for a tower with certain height and different with the fragment factors from the Code. Factors of 1000kV UHV pre-designed towers are calculated with the two types of factor. The vibration period and mode of the towers are obtained from FEM. Results show that value of dynamic wind load getting with a single factor is equivalent to that with fragment factor. The single factor can be used in the stages of feasibility study and preliminary design of UHV transmission line. And the calculation method can also be used to other high tower except UHV tower.
