The instrument for monitoring the ozone disinfecting effect in drinking water based on the principle of oxidation-reduction potential (ORP)
A type of instrument which is applied to monitor the disinfecting effect of drinking water using ozone as sanitizer is introduced in this article. And it based on an improved oxidation-reduction potential (ORP) method that belongs to electrochemistry technology. The differences between ORP method and concentration detecting methods are discussed, and the advantages of ORP method are indicated. In this article, the factors which would affect the ORP detecting results are analyzed. Comparing with the traditional ORP method, the methods of revolving solution and automatic temperature compensation are proposed. The functions, such as setting the upper limit and the lower limit of ORP to control the addition of ozone, communicating with the PC, displaying instantaneous ORP value or temperature, driving the motor, are integrated in the instrument and given in details. So, comparing with those sanitizer concentration detecting methods which were frequently used in the past few years, the instrument based on the improved method of ORP is more suitable and convenient in monitoring the disinfecting effect of drinking water.
