Noninvasive Temperature Estimation Using Ultrasound
Experiment and implement of an algorithm for noninvasive temperature estimation based on time-shifts are presented in this paper. The algorithm is based on a linear relationship between the apparent echo pattern displacements and temperature, which can be seen along A-line acquired with ultrasound when the sample is heated by water-bath. The proportionality value between the echo displacements and temperature is determined by the local changes in speed of sound which is related to changes of the temperature and the linear coefficient of thermal expansion of the material. Phantom results show that the temperature values estimated using ultrasound non-invasively meet the values estimated by thermometer well. The error of this algorithm is shown to be less than 1 ℃ , and its applicability in vivo is also discussed at the end of the paper.
