A Small Size Passive Acoustic Direction Finding System Based on Vector Hydrophone
For locating the underwater acoustic source with low cost small equipments, a high precision and small size passive acoustic direction finding technique is proposed. The system employed a pressure differential acoustic vector hydrophone which can take use of the combined information of the pressure and particle velocity of the acoustic source field. Analog signals form the vector hydrophone is sampled and sent to a digital signal processor (DSP), and the calculated direction can be get from an external interface unite. The results from test at tank demonstrated that the direction finding system is reliable and easy to use, has a high precision with the azimuth angle root mean square error less than 3 degrees. This technique can be used in small size underwater orient systems.
