Analysis of Ultrasonic Promulgating in the Finite Rods

Ultrasound, one of NDT technologies, has effect for measuring material characterizations with long history, owing to its robustness, fast response, non-destructiveness, non-invasiveness, and cost- effectiveness, but ultrasonic testing must be going on in the normal temperature. However, world market and international competition demands high quality products manufactured by efficient and cost-effective technologies, and many mass production manufacturing processes are operated at elevated temperatures, e.g. 7000C for aluminum (Al) die casting, 200-4000C for polymer extrusion and even at temperatures higher than 15000C for molten glass and steel. Thus the ultrasonic sensor should operate at such elevated temperatures. In the paper, the different rods, one part of the high temperature ultrasonic sensor, were introduce, and some experimentation corresponded is carried through for analysis the characteristic of ultrasonic in the rods. The equal diameter, un-cladding buffer rods with simple structure is studied firstly. The ultrasonic echo from the bottom of the rod has higher noise with equal periods. With the buffer rods, the ultrasonic signal of testing the polymer is less than and submerged in the noise, and the SOR is lower. Then the equal diameter, cladding buffer rods is study, and the same conclusion with the un-cladding buffer rods is drawn. The tapered diameter, un-cladding and cladding buffer rods are also studied respectively. The noise with equal periods transmitting in the former is less than that transmitting in the equal diameters the latter, and the signal of testing the polymer is equal to that with equal diameters, so the SOR is higher. The noise of the latter is less than that of the former, but the signal of testing polymer transmitting in the latter is also less than that in the former, and the SOR is invariability.Ultrasound, one of NDT technologies, has effect for measuring material characterizations with long history, owing to its robustness, fast response, non-destructiveness, non-invasiveness, and cost- effectiveness, but ultrasonic testing must be going on in the normal temperature.
