Development of Rogowski Coil System for MFCG Pulse Current Measurement

As a kind of compact Pulsed Power Supply, Magnetic Flux Compression Generator (MFCG) can be used in many military fields. To measure the output current of a piston-type MFCG prototype, a Rogowski coil measurement system was developed. The principle of Rogowski coil measurement system was introduced firstly. Considering the MFCG current can continue for 3 ×10-4s~3 ×10-3s, with fluctuation amplitude of 102A~106A, so we choose the Rogowski coil working in the near-open mode. The relative electric parameters of the Rogowski coil as following: the self-induced coefficient 9.75mH, the mutual inductance 3.7 μH, the internal resistance 41.8 Ω. After the Rogowski coil system was manufactured, a standard LRC fluctuation current measurement experiment was accomplished to test and calibrate. The result showed that the veracity of the Rogowski coil system was high, more than 96%. During the piston-type MFCG principle experiment, the amplified current recorded by means of the Rogowski coil measurement system was 3 folds of the seed current, which is the first time to detect the amplified current in the piston-type MFCG fields.
