A New Design of Magnetic Heading System Based on GMR
In many occasions, it is important to determine the direction precisely. The earth is a huge magnetic body and people can use the earth magnetic field to find north. After discovering the Giant magneto resistance (GMR) effect, it is possible to use it in heading systems. The GMR sensor can determine the direction more precisely than other magnetic effect.In this paper, a new heading system based on GMR was designed. Motivated by high precise stepper motor, the new system can determine direction in very low errors. In application, the system use MPU to control the stepping of the motor in quite small angle,and monitor the output of the sensor. The PC analyses the monitor data and find the biggest output as thedirection of magnetic north. In laboratory experiment,the system can constrain the error to 0.150.
