Study about the Relationship between Fractal Dimension of HIFU Focal Areas Ultrasound Image Subtraction and Temperature

This study concentrate on finding out the relationship between fractal dimension of HIFUFAs (High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound focal area) USIS (ultrasound image subtraction) and the temperature ,and testing the hypothesis that the effect of HIFU upon in-vitro tissue has correlation with the texture of USIS. Fresh porcine muscle was chosen as in-vitro sample. Tissues ultrasound images and their relative temperature values were caught during experiment. The value of fractal dimension of USIS was calculated by DBC (Differential box-counting) method. The results show that DBC of non-HIFUFA distribute flatly between 2.2-2.55. HIFUFAs DBC performs a more complex pattern with the temperature. Between 40°C to 47°C, box-counting dimensions of subtraction distributed between 2.3 to 2.4 flatly. They elevate from 2.4 to 2.6 as the temperature rise from 47°C to 65°C. Above 65°C, the values of DBC distribute between 2.6 to 2.65. And the trend goes back to horizontal or even downwards. Between 40°C to 47°C, Half HIFUFAs DBC distribute between 2.25 to 2.5 flatly. And they elevate from 2.4 to 2.65 as the temperature rise from 47°C to 80°C. The flattening of HIFUFA at the high temperature range doesnt appear. These suggest that DBC of USIS can be helpful in estimating weather the ROI (range of interesting) has been totally denatured by HIFU and at the same time giving the information of temperature.
