Static Strength Design of Gun Tube Based on the Twin Shear Unified Strength Theory

In the past, the maximum normal-strain strength theory was often used in static strength design of gun tube in China. So the differential strength in tension and compression was not considered in the strength design of gun tube. In this paper, the tube of 85mm caliber cannon was taken as an example to apply the twin shear united strength theory. First the axial stress was neglected to design the gun tube. Second the axial stress was considered. Third the non-convex yield criteria was studied when the parameter of the twin shear unified strength theory b>1 or b<0.
