A Method of Multi-Energy DR Image Fusion Based on Wavelet Transform

The purpose of image fusion is to merge information from different images and to improve abilities of information analysis and feature extraction. Discrete wavelet transform can offer a more precise method for image analysis than other multi-resolution analysis. According to the wavelet transform, an image can be decomposed into low frequency band and high frequency band in different level, and vice versa, the image can also be reconstructed gradually in different level. In this paper, a fusion method based on wavelet transform on two or more DR (Digital Radiography) images is introduced. In order to get more exact information of the object, two or more DR images of the object are obtained in different X-ray energy, and then are fused together. According to the properties of DR images degraded by noise, an improved fusion method based on wavelet transform is proposed. The main task of the method is to fuse the image information and realize edge protection and noise elimination at the same time. The experimental results show that the fusion scheme is effective for different image data and the fused image are more suitable for human vision.
