Gray Image Compression Based on Quad tree and PDEs
An novel image compression method is proposed in this paper based on quad tree and partial differential equation (PDE). The linear quad tree is used to divide an image into sub-images because of its simplicity, scaleability, and performance. Then some pixels are selected to encode. The block-based image compression methods usually result in discontinuities called blocking artifacts at the boundaries of blocks. So a heat propagation partial differential equation (PDE) is proposed for image reconstruction. Simulation results show that the proposed measurement provides a performance better to improve compression ratios and PSNR, especially for larger and non-texture images. It can keep details where pixel gray varies hugely and remove block-effect conveniently.
