3-D Foot-Parameter-Extracting Method and Application in the Foot Shape Measurement System
An automatic foot-parameter-extracting method, based on the definition of foot parameters and with reference to manual measurement methods, was developed in 3-D foot-shape measurement system which avoids the process of playing and manually locating landmarks on the foot. A local foot coordinate system is defined with a foot longitudinal axis, the pternion and the acropodion extracted from the boundary of XOZ projection less than 5mm above the XOZ and the XOZ foot projection. Methods of defining foot local coordinate system and extracting foot length, instep length (the 3-D distance between anterior distal end of tibia point and the acropodion) are described emphatically. Measurement results of foot shape parameters under non-weight condition and measurement results of foot length and arch height under different loads are also presented. With the measurement system, it is possible to automatically extract foot parameters with high speed and the system can be used for shoe designing, orthopaedic treatment, foot survey and establishment of foot database.
