ROI Based Identification Picture Compression
Region of interest (ROI) coding is one of the innovative functionalities supported by JPEG2000. It enables a non-uniform distribution of the available bit budget (i.e. image quality) between a selected region (ROI) and the rest of the image (background). It is suitable for the application of examinee identification picture. The face region is selected as ROI, and encode to a higher level of quality than the background. Massive experiment results show that the restructured images not only have the clear region of interest - the face region, but also have the high compression rations.
