Estimation of State of Charge of a Battery Pack in Variable Power Cases with Artificial Neural Networks

It is very important to estimate the state of charge (SOC) of battery packs in electric vehicles. Frequent variation of operation cases can alter charge and discharge current of the battery pack, which causes variation of the rated capacity of the battery pack. When current, temperature and voltage of the modules in the battery pack are used as input variables of artificial neural network (ANN), SOC can be estimated. Variable power discharge testing under FUDS was performed on test bench and experimental results validate estimation of SOC of the battery pack with ANN.
