On Chip Laser Intracavity Analyses

Laser intracavity analyses can be performed to detect any kind of small perturbation inside the laser cavity, due to the light amplification effects. In particular, the lasing output is highly sensitive to losses within the cavity. Using a microfluidic device, we have already shown the capability of detecting absorption of a chemical solution of nano-litre volume and concentration as low as 10-6mL. In this communication, we present detection of single droplets or mammalian cells of different sizes based on other loss mechanisms. A more general view of on chip laser intracavity analyses is discussed to introduce some current and future investigations.
