An Autonomous Performance Monitoring Method for INS without Additional Measurements

A majority of INS failures has an effect on the inertial platform. To a great extent, monitoring the performance of inertial platform will contribute to INS performance monitoring. Based on this idea, a new autonomous method is proposed for monitoring the performance of INS only using routine data from the inertial platform. During the working procedure of INS, the on-line data from the output of control system in inertial platform was collected and estimated in a second-order ARMA (Autoregressive Moving Average) model. Harris Index and PID-achievable performance Index are calculated from the model respectively. The two indexes incorporate to build up a combined performance benchmark, which works as a performance indicator for INS. When the indicator was below an alarm level, the maintenance and improvement would be carried out before a serious failure in system had occurred. One of the outstanding merits is that any additional information from the inside or outside of INS isnt necessary in the whole procedure.
