Research on the Digital Test of the CCD Cameras TV Lines Resolution

Moiré patterns greatly influence the measurement accuracy during visual resolution evaluation; the testing results often differ with the testers due to the different visual sensitive threshold and subjectivity. In this research, we design a set of special multi-stripe transparency target, in which the patterns spacing and size accord with the national standard GB6996.1-1986. The system calculates the TV lines resolution of the CCD camera through spectrum analysis based on the digital image acquisition. The moiré patterns show at low frequencies, when its signal intensity is far less than the characteristic TV line signals intensity, the moiré effects can be ignored. But when the moiré patterns intensity approaching the characteristic patterns intensity, the aliasing effects are obvious and the corresponding TV lines patterns are not distinguishable. Through setting a threshold which is most close to the visual testing results based on repeatedly experiments. The computer can automatically calculate the TV lines resolution. This process is objective and automotive. So it can greatly improve the precision and reproducibility of the TV lines resolution measurement.
