Analysis to Factors of the Environmental Risk for Wetland in Lower Reaches of the Weihe River in Shannxi Province

In this paper, by statistical computation and RS/GIS method, we analyze the environmental risk factors including hydrological characters of wetland, water pollution, land-use / cover and their evolution in lower reaches of the Weihe River. Our main results are as follows. (1) The quantities of the water and sand are changing dramatically in recent years, and their distributions with the decreasing tendency are not even. In flood season water from the Yellow River flows backward to the Weihe River, which relieves threaten resulted from the decreasing water and sand supply, and reduces the risk for wetland brought by the changing mentioned above. (2) The degeneration of the hydrological environment of wetland lowers its purification capability, and increases its hydrological environment risk. (3) During the period of 1989 to 2000, in lower reaches of the Weihe River, the area of the wetland increases 12.96 square kilometers with the radio of 2.7 percent, and there are 2.002 square kilometers and 0.94 square kilometers wetland become bare and saline ground, respectively. In addition, 0.03 square kilometer wetland is occupied by downtown construction. (4) Some laws should be established to protect wetland. The protection range in lower reaches of the Weihe River should be enlarged.
