Measurement of Wave Directional Spectrum from Ship Motions-Series
Wave spectrum is always the key problem for wave theoretical study and its application. The traditional way of wave spectrum study needs many complicated equipments and a long time for the data measuring and processing. A new way to measure the wave directional spectrum was presented from the analysis of ships pitching and rolling time series. The detailed method was described to obtain the one dimensional wave spectrum and the distribution rule from the ship motion series. Integrate the one dimensional wave spectrum and the directional distribution rule, we can get the actual wave directional spectrum for the area where the ship is navigating. The specification of the method above is convenient and simple. The obtained wave directional spectrum describes the actual sea condition around the ship, so the response calculation for ships with such a spectrum will be of higher precision.
