Design of Wireless Sensor Network Node with Acoustic Localization

This paper introduces a wireless sensor network node with acoustic localization. It includes a dsPIC6014A microcontroller from Micro Chip Inc., a 512KB SRAM, a 2.4GHz RF transceiver, a buzzer, a microphone and a power management unit. The node distance can be measured by TDOA (time difference of arrival) between RF (radio frequency) and acoustic signals. The node location can be obtained from multi-nodes distances. The power manager unit and the nodes sleep period are controlled by a RTC (real time clock) chip. Test result shows that the node can measure the distance longer than 25 meters with error <3% and the power dissipation in the sleep state is less than 12μW.
