Wavelet Approximate Entropy and Its Application in Fault Diagnosis

Approximate Entropy is a new concept which can measure the irregularity of time series and has many advantages in signal analysis. When equipment has fault, its vibration signal will become more complex than that in normal condition. Then the ApEn of fault signal will be larger than that in normal condition. Approximate Entropy combining with Wavelet are used in mechanical fault diagnosis. Application indicates that the method described in the paper is a good way in quantify the complexity of signals, and can distinguish faults changing degree, thereby providing an effective technology for condition monitoring and fault diagnosis of mechanical equipment.
