Determination of Eugenol Using Flow Injection Analysis with Potassium Permanganate Chemiluminescence Detection
A novel flow injection chemiluminescence (FI-CL) method for the fast, simple and sensitive determination of eugenol has been investigated. This is the first report on the determination of eugenol using flow injection analysis (FIA) with acidic potassium permanganate CL. It is based upon the direct CL reaction of eugenol and potassium permanganate in formaldehyde and sulfuric acid medium. Under the optimum conditions, the linear range for the determination of eugenol was 0.02 to 35 μg/mL. The detection limits (S/N = 3) was 0.007 μg/mL. The proposed method has been successfully applied to the determination of the eugenol in pharmaceutical formulations.
