Research of Mixing Process in Stirred Tank by Dual Axial Flow Impellers
Mixing time is an important parameter which describes blending homogenization and efficiency in stirred tank. In this paper, three dimensional flow and time-dependent mixing of experimental liquid agitated by dual-layer axial flow impeller, tri-narrow-blade hydrofoil impeller (THI), are analyzed using computational fluid dynamics (CFD). Especially the effects of feeding and detecting positions on mixing time and power consumption in stirred tank are discussed in detail. At the same time, corresponding experiments are carried out to validate the CFD results. It is founded that CFD results show a good agreement with experiment data. Mixing time and power consumption by THI are related to feeding and detecting positions. Special attentions should be paid to the selection of feeding and detecting positions in order to heighten productive efficiency.
