Semi-active H∞ Robust Control of Vehicle Suspension System by Electrorheological Damper

A semi-active H ∞ control of vehicle suspension system with electrorheological (ER) damper is presented. First a quarter car model with ER damper is constructed. Then the ER damper involved in this model is studied and the damping force is given. Finally a H∞ controller, which uses the suspension deflection as feedback signal, is designed to satisfy the performance objectives of the suspension system. The semi-active system is simulated numerically with SIMULINK under band-limited white noise road excitation and results show that the H ∞ control can achieve good suspension performance.
