Design and Implementation of Automatic Control System in the New Skimmer
To protect marine environment, a novel skimmer is developed to recover spilled oil in the water. Based on the principle of volume replacement and oil/water gravity separation, oil slick is inhaled into a separation space by negative pressure produced by suction of drain pump, then the oil accumulates on the top of the space after oil/water separation, A magneto strictive sensor, which detects position change of oil/water interface in the space, gives signals to automatic control unit. After signal processing, the unit controls on-off of drain pump and oil pump to make separated oil pumped out. As a result, recovering spilled oil automatically is realized.
