The Implementation of Remote Reconfigurable Functions in Embedded System

Programmable Logic Device (PLD) and Programmable Analog Device (PAD) can implement the functions of logic and analog circuit reconfiguration by programming. In recent years, as the system on chip (SoC) of embedded micro-processor acquires the ability of in-system programming (ISP), which not only implements the reconfiguration of the system resources, but also programs on micro-processor in the application field, we can realize software reconfiguration. Therefore, a universal embedded equipment constructed by PLD, PAD and SoC can reconfigure software and hardware to meet different application needs with programming in field. With Internet techniques, we can realize the remote reconfigurable function in the above embedded equipment. The implementation of the remote reconfigurable functions in embedded system needs three aspects of support: firstly, in application field level, the embedded reconfigurable system (reconfigurable target); secondly, in communication control level, the remote reconfigurable communication module, including Ethernet and JTAG interface, which implements target reconfiguration based on remote transported files; thirdly, in management level, the monitor computer. We give a description of the reconfigurable target, generate corresponding files and implement remote transportation through application programs. The paper introduces the significance, structure and key techniques of remote reconfiguration implementation in embedded system, designs the communication control module based on ARM which implements remote reconfiguration and realizes remote software and hardware resource reconfiguration for embedded equipment constructed by CPLD/FPGA, PAD and SoC.
