Influence Factors and Relationship of Optimum Asphalt Content for Mixture Determined by Two Design Methods
The optimum asphalt content (OAC) of 31 groups of aggregate mixtures are determined by Marshall mixture design method and Superpave mixture design method .The OAC of each method is statistically significance difference according to the result of T testing. The OAC of Marshall is greater than that of Superpave. The OAC difference values of the two methods and their statistical relationship with mixture type, aggregate gradation type, asphalt type and aggregate type are studied. Test statistics results show that the influence of aggregate gradation type on OAC differences of each mixture is significant, the influences of the other factors are very small..The quantitative relationship formulae between the OAC of Marshall method and the OAC of Superpave method are established. The suggestions and opinions on the OAC between Marshall method and Superpave method are raised.
